Camera Shy Couples: 3 Simple Ways to Stop Jitters Ruining Your Wedding Photos

Picture this: The time has come for you to book a photographer to capture your most significant moment to date….. your WEDDING DAY, but all you can think about it how petrified you (or your fiancé) is about having your/their photo taken.

For the millions of selfie-hungry extroverts out there these days who love being in front of the camera, there is also a large portion of ‘introverts’ or people who would simply consider themselves to be ‘camera shy. Fear not introverts, we can share some of our ‘insider tips’ to help you along your way;

Arrange to have an ‘Engagement’ or ‘Save the Date’ photoshoot take place prior to your wedding day

We highly recommend you speak to your photographer about doing a ‘practice run’ before your wedding date (if they haven’t already suggested this popular service many couples opt for).

By organizing to have an ‘engagement shoot’, you and your fiancé will get the chance to work with your photographer before your wedding day and get a feel for his or her style of shooting.

You can use this time to build rapport, have a laugh, get to know each other better and build a trusted, more relaxed and easy-going connection between the three of you so that, come time for your actual wedding photos, you will already have done most of the ground work.

You and your fiancé, (whether it is just one (or both) of you who are a little bashful in front of the lens), can experiment with what angles, poses, facial expressions and interactions feel and look most natural and flattering when captured on camera. That way, there will be no unexpected surprises when you view your wedding images.

Added bonus: you get something that can be also used as a gorgeous little piece of memorabilia in addition to your precious wedding photos.

Choose a photographer who you feel comfortable around

This is hugely important and can literally ‘make or break’ the chemistry shared between a couple – therefore dictating how their images translate on camera. If both yourself and your fiancé are comfortable and at ease with the professional taking your photos, you should automatically feel a sense of calm and trust when they take your photo – no matter how ‘shy’ you may be.

A good professional wedding photographer is skilled in the area of being able to extract and capture those precious unfolding interactions between couples without having to force them to happen.
Don’t be afraid to choose a different photographer if you don’t feel comfortable in your practice shoot!

Ask the photographer for direction and their ‘professional suggestions’ on what looks best on camera

Wedding photographers generally know what looks great on camera and how their clients are going to like to see themselves, so don’t be afraid to ask for their advice on the day and even what ‘they think’ looks best when it comes to you and your fiancé / bridal party.

During your wedding photography consultation, you would have spoken in depth with your photographer about what styles and elements you like and how these can be uniquely applied to your wedding day – so rest assured, your chosen photographer will do their best to ensure these vital requests from you are achieved and delivered in the best possible standard.
